Changelly: Deposit Confirmations and Swap Delivery
Changelly waits for the required deposit confirmations before exchanging the incoming cryptocurrency. Sending funds from your wallet starts that process; it does not establish when the receiving wallet will show the payout. Delivery also depends on exchange processing and the outgoing transfer. The useful distinction is between a deposit awaiting confirmations, an exchange still processing, and a payout already on its way. Each state calls for a different check.
Fixed and floating orders during the confirmation wait
Fixed-rate orders protect the quoted amount when their payment conditions are met, while floating-rate orders remain exposed to market changes during processing. Neither choice removes the deposit confirmation requirement. For a fixed order, the required incoming amount and the deadline for the transfer to appear on the blockchain matter. That deadline concerns funding the order; it is not a promise that the payout will reach your wallet before the countdown ends.
A floating quote can change while the exchange remains unfinished. The rate setting therefore affects the amount calculation, not the network's confirmation speed.
Deposit records and payout records
The order ID identifies the exchange inside Changelly, while the incoming transaction hash identifies your deposit on its blockchain. The payout has a separate hash. These records answer different questions: whether you funded the order, what stage the exchange has reached, and whether the outgoing transfer exists. A deposit hash alone cannot demonstrate delivery of the exchanged currency.
The transaction record distinguishes the expected incoming amount from the amount actually received. It also separates the incoming address, recipient address, and actual payout amount. Comparing those fields keeps a delay investigation attached to the correct transfer. Keep the order ID alongside the available hashes, selected networks, amounts, and any required memo or destination tag.
A missing payout hash leaves the outgoing transfer unverified; it does not explain the delay by itself.
How many confirmations does a deposit need?
The required confirmation count depends on the incoming currency, so one successful exchange does not establish the threshold for another deposit. The Confirming status means the service has received the payment and is waiting for the applicable confirmations. Exchanging means that confirmation has completed and conversion is underway.
Currency-specific notices can flag a longer wait before funding. A blockchain explorer's confirmed label does not necessarily mean the deposit has reached the service's required count. Read the count alongside the order status rather than treating the first confirmation as the end of the wait.
Why is a confirmed deposit still waiting for delivery?
A confirmed deposit can still await exchange processing, an outgoing transfer, or a separate verification requirement. Exchanging concerns conversion after deposit confirmation. Trading demand and technical problems at an exchange partner can delay that work. Sending concerns the payout, where network congestion or a problem with the recipient details can prevent prompt delivery.
The processing estimate also needs the correct starting point. An estimate that begins after receipt and confirmation excludes the earlier deposit wait. Measuring it from order creation combines different parts of the transaction and can make an ordinary confirmation delay look like stalled conversion.
A Hold status requires attention to the verification request. Additional blockchain confirmations alone do not resolve that requirement.
Tracing a delayed order without sending again
If you attempted to fund an order but its status is uncertain, inspect the payment record before considering another transfer. The incoming hash is the first prerequisite: without it, establish whether the sending wallet or service actually broadcast the payment. This check preserves your remaining funds while distinguishing an unconfirmed deposit from an order that needs support.
- If the sender provides no transaction hash, check its withdrawal or send record before treating the order as funded.
- If the deposit exists but remains below the required confirmation count, monitor that transfer rather than making another payment.
- If the deposit details match and the required confirmations have arrived, an unchanged order status warrants support investigation.
- If a payout hash appears, inspect the outgoing transfer and compare its destination with the order's recipient address.
As the original deposit gains confirmations, the order can progress to exchange processing. A matching payout record and receipt in the intended wallet establish the delivery result. An unexplained mismatch calls for investigation using the existing records. Sending an additional payment does not resolve the original deposit's confirmation delay. Changelly specifically cautions against resending a stuck payment with a higher fee because its deposit addresses are non-reusable.
Successful payout and a missing wallet balance
A Finished status records that the service successfully sent the payout to the recipient address. A wallet balance display answers a different question: whether that wallet has recognized the incoming funds. The outgoing hash, destination, and network help distinguish a transfer problem from a display or crediting problem.
A wallet that has not synchronized can show an outdated balance. A missing required recipient memo or tag can also leave a deposit unassigned at a wallet provider. More confirmations on your original deposit cannot fix either condition. The relevant investigation has moved to the payout and its destination.
Can I cancel a swap while the deposit is confirming?
A confirming deposit does not give you a guaranteed cancellation option. Before funding, you can abandon the order by withholding payment and allowing it to expire. After funding, contact support promptly if you need the exchange stopped or recipient details corrected. Whether intervention remains possible depends on the transaction's progress.
Once the payout has been sent, Changelly cannot cancel it. A pending status should never be treated as a reserved opportunity to reverse the exchange.
Everyday questions about Changelly
-
Does refreshing the order page restart confirmation processing?
- Refreshing the order page does not restart the blockchain transaction. It can update a stale status display. If a sent payment still appears unpaid, provide support with the existing incoming hash and order ID so they can investigate the discrepancy.
-
Will a higher network fee reduce the required confirmation count?
- A higher network fee does not reduce Changelly's required confirmation count. Depending on the network, the fee can influence how quickly a transfer enters a block. The service still waits for the confirmations required for that incoming currency.
-
What happens if the deposit has confirmations but lacks its required memo?
- A missing required deposit memo or destination tag can prevent automatic processing even when the blockchain confirms the transfer. Support must investigate the payment using its transaction details. Waiting for additional blocks does not supply the missing identifier.
-
Who provides instructions when a swap inside another app goes on hold?
- The app that arranged the exchange through Changelly's API is responsible for passing verification instructions to its user. Changelly cannot independently contact every partner's user. The partner should direct you to Changelly's security team for the required verification. Additional deposit confirmations do not clear the hold.
